On April 4, 2023, the landscape of the Baylor University campus changed. On that day, the University dedicated two statues commemorating the late Rev. Robert L. Gilbert and Mrs. Barbara A. Walker – the first Black students to earn their undergraduate degrees from the University.
The celebration included a dedication ceremony featuring Baylor and Waco leaders and a reception open to all guests. The dedication took place outside of Baylor’s historical Tidwell Bible Building, where the statues were unveiled, and a reception followed at the McMullen-Connally Faculty Center.
