Mobile Food Pantry

For the past year, a group of faculty and administrators has been meeting to discuss responses to Baylor students who are “food insecure,” that is, they do not have enough money for food, or sufficiently nutritious food. A survey they conducted of the most vulnerable BU students revealed that 50% of them struggle with food access in some form. In the fall they collaborated on the Baylor Free Farmers Market, where we distributed 46,000 lbs of free fruits and veggies to about 1,300 students.

On Thursday, March 2nd, they will be hosting the Baylor Mobile Food Pantry from 11am-2pm in the 7th & James Baptist Church parking lot. The goal here is to provide free fresh fruits and veggies to Baylor students, regardless of need – anyone is welcome to come – and in doing so, to make receiving food less stigmatizing for students who really need it most. This is the first in what we plan to be a recurring event.
